But technically, the verb gustar means 'to please' so in our example above, it's the thing (to dance) that influences the verb conjugation

 

to dance (it) is what is

doing the pleasing

 

and the me is what shows us

who it is pleasing to.

it is pleasing to me

 

So technically we are saying...

it pleases me to dance
